You’ve heard it called the Utility Rush Hour.  It’s when it’s -20 C outside and everything in your home is making the meter whirl around like crazy.  The furnace, the dishwasher, the stove, the television and your gas fireplace with a blower.  It’s a real burden on your energy bill. But there are a few steps you can take to take it down a notch.

Your Appliances

Start with the kitchen, which is where most of the energy buzz happens every night between 5 pm and 7 pm.  Your fridge, your stove and your dishwasher can present a real energy drain especially if your appliances are not Energy Star.  This is a rating given to home appliances by Natural Resources Canada.
