Purchasing a Calgary Home - What Happens after You Sign the Contract

When you find the perfect home the next step is setting your name to the contract to make things official. It's an exciting time, that's for sure, and your adventure is about to begin. You've made it through the first stage of shopping and finding the right home and now it's time to enter phase 2 of the process. After the signing has been completed, here are some of the things that you can expect to have happen next.

Finalize the mortgage

At this stage you'll need to get your mortgage finalized. Hopefully you've been pre-approved for a home loan already and it's just a matter of crossing some T's and dotting some I’s at this point.

Home inspection

If there was a constituency clause in the contract regarding a home inspection, you'll want to get it done quickly and look at the results fast. This will let you know that the house is ready to be moved into and is safe and sound. Make sure that all necessary tests are performed so that you can feel secure about going ahead with the process.

Organize a mover

Good movers can be booked up for weeks in advance. Get in touch with some moving companies now in order to get some quotes and then secure a date with the mover you feel the most comfortable with. Don't put this part off - you'll be quite surprised to see just how booked up these companies can be especially at this time of the year.

Get in touch with your friends and family

Don't skip this part! Now is the time to celebrate. You have taken the leap forward and have plenty to be thankful for. Go out for supper and celebrate the fact that you have made it this far and even though there is a lot of work to do in the future, you have climbed the mountain and are now able to look down the other side. In the distance is your home and it's now just waiting for you to make the move into it!
