The legendary captain of the USS Enterprise will be the official parade marshal for the 2014 Calgary Stampede. William Shatner will be making his way to Calgary on July 4 for the big march that makes its way through downtown Calgary. This will be Shatner's first Stampede experience and we're sure he's going to have a blast!
William Shatner was born in Montréal and although he has been able to visit Calgary before he's never had a chance to go to the stampede. By leading the parade, he'll certainly have a first-hand experience that he'll never forget.
Mr. Shatner is passionate about horses and has quite a Hollywood career behind him. Star Trek fans are going to be thrilled to see him as the parade marshal.
Riding alongside Mr. Shatner as honourary marshals will be Gilmore Junio and Denny Morrison. This pair were the speed skating stars at the Sochi Winter Olympics. They were thrilled to be asked to ride as honourary marshals especially knowing that William Shatner would be riding along with them.
The 2014 Calgary Stampede will run from July 4 to July 13. The parade takes place at 9 AM on Friday, July 4. It starts at 6th Avenue and 3rd Street S.E. and heads west. To see a full parade route map you can visit http://parade.calgarystampede.com/parade-route-map.html.
Seating for the event is on a first-come first-served basis on the sidewalks on 6th and 9th Avenues. If you're looking for a prime spot for viewing the parade, arrive early and be sure that you have worked out a place to park if you're driving.
There will be no bleacher seating provided by the Stampede Parade Committee but paid private bleacher seating is available. This paid seating will cover less than 20% of the parade route. This ensures that it is still a free parade according to the Stampede tradition.
