It’s that time of year when spring weather is showing itself and the worst of winter is over. This is a common time of year to start wanting to warm up and to clean up. With shoes tracking in salt on the sidewalk and winter clothes all over the house, you may be ready to get the deep cleaning going.
It’s a great time to start fresh, get rid of the old and bring in the new. Along with cleaning, it’s a great time to get organized and this is a look at how to tackle spring cleaning this year.
Where to begin
The first place to start is by picking one thing to organize or clean. By starting small, you’ll avoid overwhelming yourself or feeling the enthusiasm of spring cleaning diminishing. Small accomplishments motivate people to keep going and to do more. Start organizing a drawer or closet that bothers you the most and you’ll feel relieved once you’ve seen the fruits of your labour.
Schedule your spring cleaning
This may sound odd, but make a cleaning schedule. Just like you would schedule a work out, business meeting or dinner plans, start scheduling your spring cleaning. If you block time off of your calendar to work on organizing or cleaning, it will allow you to feel free to work on the project without feeling like you’re losing time for other things.
Handling a small amount each day or each week will make it feel like it’s not an interruption from your life and yet will still show results. Divide your home into zones and schedule in tasks that take no longer than an hour such as cleaning the fridge or filing.
Spring cleaning tasks
Use this time of year to not only clean, vacuum, dust and mop but also to organize. Swap out your winter clothes for spring and summer clothes. Throw out or donate old clothes. Throw out anything in the house that is expired like pantry items or medicine.
Use this time to get storage units and labels. This will help ensure you stay organized in the future. Using a label maker and labelling everything properly, it will be easy to put things away in the proper place in the future.
Even spending just ten minutes a day spring cleaning will be a great start to getting some of the winter dirt under control.
