What's new at the new Currie Barracks development

The Crowchild and Flanders Avenue interchange is progressing nicely and drivers no doubt will be happy when the speed limit goes back to 80 kmph through that construction zone.  But the heartache will be well worth it as access to the new Currie Barracks community will be free-flowing.

At final build-out there will 11,000 people living in the former CFB Currie lands, an area once inhabited by enlisted men in some of the tidy white buildings which still remain.  The total space is 157 acres, which is comparable to 119 football fields.  Canada Lands is working towards building a complete urban village, with shopping, retail, dining, recreation, green space and beautiful homes in attractive price ranges. They will preserve the heritage buildings so intrinsic to the character of Currie Barracks, repurposing them for commercial use.

One of the newest multi-family buildings under construction in this urban village currently in the development phase is AXESS, a condo/townhome development from Slokker Canada West.

In all there will be 164 condos, 18 upscale townhomes and 18 studio apartments.  They’re contemporary, stylish, functional and they promise to be comfortable.

Buyers of every age have been getting in on the pre-sales action, from 20-somethings to downsizers.  The attractions are many.

In regards to the four-storey condo building, people love the fact that there will be a well-appointed lobby in which owners can great their guests or see them out.

Next, these units have wonderful chef-inspired kitchens. Buyer feedback has been very positive as our focal point in the home has turned from expansive living rooms to functional, wide-open kitchens.  Everyone knows that’s where the true heart of the home really is.  Kitchens will have ample counter space, an island and quality cabinetry with great stainless steel appliances including a gas stove.

Wood-plank floors, porcelain tile in each unit’s entryway, in-suite laundry are other interior appointments.

Gigantic windows ensure that owners will have plenty of natural light.  This is so important especially for those who are used to living in a home perhaps with large windows or a yard that they could just walk out into.

Slokker Canada West has ensured that residents will have underground parking, secure and heated.

One-bedroom units are 652 square feet with an exterior deck boasting another 81 square feet of living space. Larger units will have 1,278 square feet of living space.

The building doesn’t have amenities such as a fitness centre because of the proximity to Mount Royal University.  This marvelous facility is open to the public and has a huge pool, running rack and a massive fitness room plus fitness classes and yoga programs.

The location is another fabulous selling point for Axess.  Calgarians were so disappointed when the old farmer’s market closed, but another one is in the works.

Currie Barracks is only 15 minutes to downtown with great transit connections.

The presentation centre is a 2953 Battleford Ave SW. These units are priced from the $230,000s for studios; from the $300,000s for apartment-style condos (one and two bedrooms); from the $550,000s for town homes (three-bedroom, two-bath).
