No matter who you talk to, everyone that loves Canada has their own reasons why they feel country and why they feel it is so great. When all of these reasons are put together through a survey though you can see an overriding consensus between Canadians about the things that make this country stand out from all others.

This year, a study was performed by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development showing exactly what the highlights are of our country based on the comments given by Canadians and research. Here are some of the highlights from the report:

Community spirit

Overall, Canadians only spend 2 minutes per day working as a volunteer, which was approximately half of the average that was recorded in this report that took 36 nations into account. On the other hand, 94% said that they knew a person they could be counted on when needed.

Satisfied with housing

Nine out of the 10 Canadians surveyed were satisfied with the housing they had. The report also noted that the average Canadian home offers 2.6 rooms for every person living in the dwelling, which was a higher amount than what was found in all of the other countries.

Looking good health-wise

Canadians are looking great when it comes to health. The life expectancy for a Canadian is 81 at birth, which is 1 year higher than the average on the report. As well, 88% of those surveyed said that they were in good health.

Safe country to live in

In the report, only 1.3% of the Canadians surveyed said that they had suffered from an assault during the 1- year time period before the report was conducted. The average for all countries was 4%. As far as the homicide rate goes, Canada was only slightly below the 2.2% average rate with a 1.6% homicide rate.

Higher than average income

The average income per household in Canada was $28,194 US after taxes every year. This is $5000 US more than the average. Interestingly enough, the top 20% of the income owners take home on average $55,718 US while at the other end of the spectrum the lower wage earners only bring back $10,546 US after taxes on average.
